Protection of the PK Polje-C landfill from atmospheric water would be enabled by the construction of drainage channels and water reservoirs. Depending on the hypsometric position, the collected water from the water reservoir would be pumped into the Peštan River or the Turija River. In the part of the landfill that is hypsometrically above the level of the Peštan River, the collected water would be drained by gravity through the drainage channel, without pumping. Due to the inefficiency of the application of classical gravity methods of deep drainage of the internal landfill, the application of a drainage vacuum system made of vacuum wells (ejectors) with an impact to depths of 45-50m was proposed. The proposed systems would be previously tested on the landfill test fields, east of the Husker facility. It is not possible to achieve greater efficiency in draining deeper parts of the landfill, bearing in mind that 80% of the landfill consists of waterlogged clays.
