Abstract

The aim of the paper is to confirm the practical application of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) methods in the creation of a biodiversity cadastre in locations affected by surface mining of lignite on the example of RB Kolubara. Biodiversity management requires fast, accurate, operational and relevant data on the area being analyzed. One of the first steps is to define the ecosystems in question and the industrial mining facilities and processes that affect them. The use and processing of available satellite and orthophoto images confirmed the practical application of RS and GIS methods in the work.
